Chief Medical Officer
In 2009, Dr George Cheriyan joined the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥, as its 11th CEO and Chief Medical Officer. And, since 2018, he is serving as the Corporate CEO and Board Member.
He had worked as a Neonatologist for over 25 years after obtaining his Medical training at the University of Kerala, India, and following it with postgraduate training in Pediatrics at
The Hospital for Sick Children in London, UK and sub-specialisation in Neonatology at the
Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
After his work as a Consultant Neonatologist in the NHS (
National Health Service) in London for five years, he joined the
Saudi Aramco Medical Services, KSA. Here too, his role was that of a Consultant Neonatologist.
In Saudi Arabia, he worked for 18 years in various capacities of leadership - including leading the healthcare-quality of Saudi Aramco Healthcare - before his move to Bahrain’s
÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ in 2009.
He is a trained ‘Improvement Adviser’ in Healthcare Quality from the
Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in Boston, MA, USA.
He obtained training in Healthcare management at the
Harvard Business School, He is an alumnus of the
Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and also has an MBA in leadership from the UK.
His area of interest is in developing a model of
non-profit healthcare which is both affordable and of high quality, in all economies.
He is also an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Medicine and Management at the RCSI or the
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Within the 15 years of his leadership, the hospital has seen the growth from two locations to five locations in Bahrain, and has seen the staff strength triple in size; to over 1000 employees now.
The conception, the construction, and the commissioning, of the biggest private hospital in Bahrain, the
King Hamad ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥, in A'Ali, apart from two new large staff accomodation complexes in Manama and A'Ali are also evidences of his vision and leadership.
